Producer Gathering

Thursday 8th January and Friday 9th January 2015

As part of This Way Up The Empty Space teamed up with Dance City to host a two-day event for performing arts producers. The Producer Gathering included an opportunity to Meet the Programmers, a panel discussion and opportunities to start conversations with other emerging and experienced producers from across the UK.

As producers ourselves we know that it takes a lot to be able to justify two days away from work so we packed as much as possible into the schedule whilst also allowing for travel time:

Thursday 8th January 2015

  • 1.15pm to 2pm - Tour of Northern Stage (optional)
  • 2.30pm to 6.30pm - Meet the Programmers, produced by ARC, this was an introduction to venue and festival programmers from across the North East of England and included an opportunity for artists and producers to pitch upcoming shows.
  • 6.30pm to 9pm - Networking dinner

Friday 9th January 2015

  • 9am to 10.30am - Panel Discussion: How to Survive as an Independent Producer / Where Are All the Dance Producers? / Where Are All the Disabled Producers?
  • 11am to 3.15pm - The Invisible Army 2: How do we better support our Independent Producers? An Open Space event about independent producers and producing propsed by Emily Coleman, Ruth Dudman and Lucy Moore on behalf of SOUPing. Read reports from The Invisible Army 2 here.
