Live Lab

The Empty Space collaborates with Live Theatre on an ongoing scratch and bursary programme that supports new approaches to new writing.

Our Scratch Nights invite audiences to help shape new pieces of theatre from some of the country’s most exciting theatre makers. And we're so keen to talk to you about the shows afterwards that we even provide you with home made cake and you can't say fairer than that. Artists that we have brought into the region to scratch include Inua Ellams, Melanie Wilson, Inspector Sands, Sleepdogs, Lizi Patch and Rachel Mars. Details of upcoming scratch nights can be found on our events page.

The Live Lab Bursaries encourage innovative artists to explore fresh approaches to creating and using new writing in theatre. The 2015 bursary holders are fanSHEN who will be developing their new show Lists for the end of the world at Live culminating in a performance at Scratch Night in February 2016. You can find out more about fanSHEN, Lists for the end of the world and the bursary scheme here.
